An Auckland senior care center was closed after residents contracted flu-like symptoms.

The families of residents living at Terrence Kennedy House, a nursing home on the grounds of Greenview Park Village in Glen Eden, were told today that they would not be able to visit.

“Unfortunately, we have residents who have developed flu-like symptoms, therefore we have made the decision not to allow visitors to our hospital,” said manager Lisa Jones in a note to families.

“All our staff [are] wear appropriate personal protective equipment to minimize the risk of spreading the symptoms. “

A spokeswoman for Residential Management Ltd said the company behind the facility placed her in voluntary isolation for the remainder of the weekend as part of “standard procedure.”

He had also conducted preventive tests for Covid-19.

“We had some residents today who were experiencing flu-like symptoms,” he said.

“One resident had a mild temperature this morning, but it has since returned to normal.”

“Regardless, those residents are isolated and we have made it known to the families of our residents that we will not allow visits this weekend, or until we receive the results of the Covid-19 precautionary tests that were conducted this afternoon.”

She said the facility’s management team was also in regular contact with her GP and the Ministry of Health.

“We will be closely monitoring our other residents in case they develop any symptoms,” he said.

“Residents who have had symptoms today are comfortable and do not need hospital treatment.”

There are currently no known community cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.

An Air New Zealand crew member was a new positive case in the country today after arriving in New Zealand on December 9, on a flight from the United States.

The person tested positive as part of the required mandatory tests within 48 hours of their operation in the US.

The risk to the general public is considered low, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The Covid-19 positive crew member has self-isolated in his room at a facility used by Air New Zealand for the aircrew and is being transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
