Guests at the Pullman Hotel blocked Princes Street after a fire alarm went off at the Pullman Hotel in central Auckland, a managed isolation facility, around 7:30 pm on Saturday.
Cheers erupted as guests staying at a managed seclusion hotel in central Auckland managed to escape from their rooms, even if it was short-lived.
Guests of the Pullman Hotel blocked Princes Street after a fire alarm went off around 7:30 p.m.
Firefighters and Emergencies went to the scene after reports of smoke and alarm activation.
A woman who flew in from Sydney two days ago to surprise her mother at Christmas said the guests had “piled up the stairs” and were instructed to step outside so the fire apparatus could enter.

“A guy cheered when the door was opened. We were probably there for 20 minutes before everyone started heading back inside. But we blocked Princes Street and the public was walking through Albert Park while we were spread out on the street.
Staff told everyone to disperse, and police, as well as the defense force, were on the scene guarding guests and directing traffic, he said.
“Also, they just called my room to check that I’m here, assuming they’re calling everyone … I’m only on the second day.” [of managed isolation] so I can’t speak for the people who have been here longer, but I imagine it will be as exciting as my Saturday night. “
A northern fire communications spokesman said the activation was a false alarm.
