The police dog was shot in Northland on Dec. 1 when officers were pursuing a wanted man near Dargaville.
The 30-year-old was also injured that day when police officers shot him three times after the dog was shot.
Today the police confirmed that the man has been charged in Auckland District Court.
He has been charged with using a firearm against a law enforcement officer, injuring a police dog, illegal possession of a pistol, and illegal possession of ammunition.
“Today’s court proceedings will be administrative only because the man cannot appear in person to answer the charges,” says Northland District Commander and Superintendent Tony Hill.
He also faces other charges for unrelated matters, police say.
