A mysterious 10-foot-tall metal pillar that appeared in a field near the central German city of Sulzbach over the weekend has been reduced to scrap metal.
The German news agency dpa reports that the pillar was destroyed by unknown persons on Tuesday night (local time).
He quoted a local official in Sulzbach as saying Wednesday the debris has already been taken to a junkyard to avoid endangering bystanders.
Several monoliths have appeared without explanation around the world in recent weeks.

The first was found in the desert of Utah, United States, on November 18.
It was dismantled at the end of November, when another monolith appeared in Romania.

Since then, more monoliths have been found around the world, with a group of artists taking responsibility for the mysterious objects.
Elsewhere, a large wooden sculpture of a more profane nature recently disappeared and was then quickly replaced in Bavaria, causing joy and a flurry of headlines around the world.
