New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been named the 32nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

Ardern was one of 100 women from 30 countries who were named to the 17th annual power rankings list.

The list included 38 CEOs, 10 heads of state, and five artists.

“New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (# 32) defeated a first and second wave of the virus in her country by implementing strict lockdown and quarantine procedures,” said ForbesWomen editor Maggie McGrath.

The prime minister ranked above Queen Elizabeth II, who was at number 46.

This isn’t the first time Ardern has been named to the list: in 2019 he was ranked 38th and in 2018 29th.

Topping the list for the tenth time is Germany’s first woman and current Chancellor Angela Merkel, followed by Christine Lagarde, who in 2019 became the first woman to head the European Central Bank.

“His leadership is marked by his iron reserve, from facing Donald Trump to allowing the entry of more than a million Syrian refugees into Germany.”

Merkel is then followed by US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who comes in second.

“One month after the debate, Senator Harris became the first woman, the first African American and the first Asian American to be elected vice president, an unprecedented trifecta of firsts for California Senator Harris.”

Forbes provides specific lists such as “Politics and Politics,” in which Ardern was named seventh behind women like Angela Merkel, Kamala Harris, and Nancy Pelosi.
