A 28-year-old child care worker was arrested and charged with indecent assault and rape, following a complaint from a young man.
Manukau Police Counties Detective Sergeant Major Dean Batey said police have been investigating since the complaint was filed on November 18.
“Investigations are ongoing and the police cannot rule out further charges.”
The head of the child care group confirmed the allegation related to a staff member who no longer works at the company.
She said in an email to parents tonight that the company takes such allegations seriously.
“The staff member was removed from duty with immediate effect.
“The safety of the children in our care is our primary consideration.
“Both the police and Oranga Tamariki have been informed about the accusation.
“Our child safety protocols are clear, MSD approved, and are regularly updated and communicated to all staff.”
