There are six new cases of Covid-19 in quarantine and isolation facilities administered today, and the Pakistan cricket team’s tests on the 12th have come back negative.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said there were no new community cases. All of the people in the November quarantine group have also recovered and been released from isolation.
The six new cases in isolation and quarantine facilities included two people who arrived on December 1. One traveled from the UK via Qatar and Australia and was retested after an inconclusive test result on day three, the other traveled from Sweden via Qatar and Australia and tested positive on day five.
Three people arrived on December 3, from the United Arab Emirates through Australia, from Hungary through Germany and Qatar, and from the United Kingdom through Singapore, and all tested positive on day 3.
The ministry said the Pakistan cricket team’s tests on the 12th had come back negative and 52 members of the team would be released from isolation in Christchurch today.
One member of the squad would remain in quarantine until fully recovered and one who had been flown to Auckland and had repeatedly tested negative would also be released from quarantine.
In total, the team had six active cases, five of which had since recovered, and four cases that were considered historical.
Eight recovered cases bring the number of active cases to 54, while the total number of confirmed cases is 1,729.
Labs completed 2,894 tests yesterday, bringing the total tests to 1,315,201.
The last person arrived on December 5 from Turkey via Egypt and the United Arab Emirates and was transferred to the quarantine facility upon arrival.
Yesterday, there was a new imported case.
Starting tomorrow, the ministry’s updates on Covid-19 cases will be reduced to four times a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
