Auckland jewelry store robbed, armed criminals on the run

Two men wearing ski masks are on the run after robbing an Auckland jewelry store armed with hammers.

A police spokesman said the incident took place at the NorthWest Mall in Westgate on Monday morning.

At 9.40 a.m. M., Two criminals entered the store with weapons and broke windows before fleeing with stolen jewelry.

A Michael Hill Jeweler staff member confirmed the incident and said no staff member was injured.

“Everyone is safe. My staff did very well to make sure the police were informed as soon as possible. “

A woman at the mall, who did not want her name used for security reasons, said she saw two men wearing black ski masks and carrying bags and hammers.

She said the men smashed the store cabinets before she ran to the other end of the mall in fear.

It was not yet known how many jewels the criminals took.

The police spokesman said officers were on the scene conducting follow-up investigations to identify and locate the criminals.

A spokesman for the Northwest Shopping Center said no one was injured and the mall remained open normally.

“NorthWest Shopping Center treats the safety of its retailers, customers and the public as the highest priority and is cooperating with the New Zealand Police on the matter.”
