New Zealand off-roader Daryl Mitchell has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for using an audible obscenity during the team’s first massive victory over the West Indies in Hamilton.

Mitchell was found to have violated Article 2.3 of the ICC Code, which refers to the “use of an audible obscenity during an international match”.

On top of this, a point of demerit has been added to your disciplinary record.

The incident occurred on the 62nd Saturday when Mitchell used inappropriate language as Jason Holder ran between and very close to the wickets.

Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction which was ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department under the interim COVID-19 game rules.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to the crime and accepted the proposed penalty, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Level 1 offenses carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of a fine of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
