There are nine new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation.

Of the nine new cases, eight are considered active cases and one historical. Of the eight active cases:

• One case arrived on November 30 from the UK via the United States. They tested positive on routine tests on day three and were transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
• One case arrived on December 1 from Sweden via Qatar and Australia. They tested positive in routine tests on day three and were transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
• One case arrived on November 23 from the United States. They were evaluated on day 10 after appearing symptomatic and transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
• Four boxes, traveling separately, arrived on November 30 from the United States. They have tested positive on routine tests on day three. All have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
• One case arrived on November 26 from South Africa. They were in the same travel bubble as a previously reported case and have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
• A case considered historic arrived on November 21 from the United States via Hong Kong. They returned a positive test on the 12th. Further investigation indicates this is a historic case, the Health Ministry said.

“The varied origins of these cases are a stark reminder that as Covid-19 continues to strike countries and jurisdictions around the world, isolation and mandatory testing will continue to be critically important as large numbers of New Zealanders return to home before the vacation period, “” the ministry said in a statement.

Eleven previously reported cases have now been recovered, bringing New Zealand’s total number of active cases to 59.

Friday was the first time since October 19 that no new cases were detected at the border or in the community.

Chief Health Officer Ashley Bloomfield told the Pakistani cricket team yesterday that they were not allowed to train.

Today, the Health Ministry said the labs had completed processing of the team’s 9-day swabs. All 43 results are negative.

Seven members of the squad are infected with Covid-19.

The team, which was put on final notice by the government after violating a series of managed isolation rules, remains in hiding at the Chateau on the Park in Christchurch.

The team was previously criticized by Bloomfield for violating the rules within the facility.

The Health Ministry also issued a warning about the Christmas party earlier this week.

“With the countdown to Christmas, the ministry is asking that anyone hosting a staff party make sure everyone in attendance is okay. If someone who was planning to attend is unwell, consider how you can include them in your celebrations through of a video call. or other means that ensure they can participate while everyone is safe, “the ministry said in its statement.

“Encourage attendees to register on-site with the NZ Covid Tracer app, on the Covid Tracer brochure available online or in a personal notebook,” the ministry said.

The Health Ministry has continued to remind New Zealanders to use the Covid Tracer app and keep detailed records of their movements in case they need to be located.

“Doing so through the app is private to the user and will give our system the best chance to gain an advantage in the event that Covid-19 cases arise and need to be isolated and traced,” the ministry said.

“Stopping the spread of the virus quickly is how we can continue to enjoy our Alert Level 1 freedoms, so scan every time you see a QR code.”
