Covid-19: eight new cases in managed isolation, one historical case and no new community cases

There are eight new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation and there are no new community cases to report on Saturday.

A historical infection has also been identified, confirmed the Ministry of Health. This person traveled from the United States via Hong Kong on November 21 and tested positive on day 12 of his stay in controlled isolation. They remain in controlled isolation.

The eight active cases have traveled from the United Kingdom through the United States, Sweden through Qatar and Australia, the United States and South Africa. All have been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

The Health Ministry said the varied origins of the active cases is a reminder that the virus continues to devastate parts of the world.

“Isolation and mandatory testing will continue to be of vital importance as large numbers of New Zealanders return home before the holiday period,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.

There are 59 active cases in quarantine facilities across the country. Eleven previously active cases have been recovered.

Most of the active cases are people who came to New Zealand from international destinations, four are people who were in close contact with imported cases.

In all, New Zealand has reported 1722 confirmed cases.

More than 1.3 million Covid-19 tests have been processed in New Zealand.

Labs processed 6,047 tests on Friday, bringing the total to 1.3 million.

The Ministry of Health has registered 2.39 million registered users in the NZ Covid Tracer application. Users have scanned 133.2 million posters and created 5.3 million manual journal entries.
