Chief Health Officer Dr. Ashley Bloomfield canceled the Pakistan cricket team’s training exemption from controlled isolation due to “risk of cross infection.”

It occurs when 10 of the 53 men on the team have been confirmed with the disease.
“I have considered this situation very carefully. At this time, I continue to have concerns about the risk of cross infection within the team, ”said Bloomfield.
“Several active cases have been identified among the team. Public health considerations will continue to be paramount in our response to Covid-19, whether it’s people or equipment.
“We appreciate the challenges this decision will have for the touring team.”
The team was previously warned for violating isolation protocols administered at their Christchurch hotel.
“Several CCTV team members have been seen at the facility in breach of managed isolation rules, despite clear, consistent and detailed communication of expected behaviors while in the facility,” the Health Ministry said late of November.

Bloomfield said the team received a “final warning” at the time of the infractions.
“It is a privilege to come to New Zealand to play sports, but in return teams must adhere to the rules that are designed to keep Covid-19 out of our communities and keep our staff safe,” Bloomfield said.
Pakistan will face the Black Caps in the first T20 on December 18 at Eden Park.
