Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson has another major milestone coming up, one that could cause him to miss an event.

Williamson scored the highest from an illustrious test-keeper on Friday, with his 251 leading New Zealand in a dominant position over the West Indies in their first test at Hamilton.

Later, Williamson acknowledged that his wife Sarah was going to give birth to their first child in mid to late December.

“It’s kind of a wait and see what happens,” Williamson said when asked if he could deviate from national obligations.

“This is a very exciting time in anyone’s life and certainly mine.

“We’re just going to cross that bridge when we can and see how things unfold, but it’s very difficult to plan ahead.”

When Williamson took the final steps into the locker room after being fired on Friday, he assiduously practiced the shot that took him out.

It was a sharp reminder of why the 30-year-old is New Zealand’s best tryout hitter, after his skill and diligence put the hosts in a position to dictate the terms for the remaining three days of the tryout at Seddon Park. .

His selflessness and dedication to his craft was highlighted when he spoke after the stumps, with the Windies reaching 49 without loss after New Zealand made a declared 519-7.

“First of all, it’s for the team, it always is,” Williamson said with a smile, knowing the media expected him to deftly deflect any praise onto the delicate leg of modesty.

He said his goal was to “stick to my plans for long periods of time and then hope that when you get the good balls you will lose them or maybe they will go down instead of slipping.

“Even towards the end of my innings I was still playing and still losing.”

With his 22nd test ton, Williamson now has 7.4 percent of all New Zealand players’ testing centuries amid a golden era of racing for the national team (Williamson, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham have 17.45 per hundred of all 298 centuries of 77-player NZ test).

It was also Williamson’s ninth ton as captain, pushing him one past Stephen Fleming.

It was the second highest score by a test captain against the West Indies; only Englishman Peter May has done better with 285 undefeated at Birmingham in 1957.

As statistical achievements accumulated, he reached the highest score of any batter at Seddon Park and the highest individual score in nearly 200 first-class games at the venue.

Williamson now has three double centuries for New Zealand, as do Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum, and his former captain remains the only kiwi to earn a triple ton.

His hit improved his test average to 52.55 on his 81st test.

Williamson made 131 in his debut test innings against India in Ahmedabad in November 2010.

But his next ton at the highest level did not come in 20 innings, when his average was 30.52, and after 25 tests he only had three to his name.

Since then, all expectations of him since he appeared on the national scene as a precociously talented teenager have been wholeheartedly fulfilled.
