Captain Kane Williamson scored 251, his third-century double and highest score, before making an assertive statement of 519-7 on Friday on the second day of the first cricket test against the West Indies.

Williamson waited for all-rounder Kyle Jamieson to post his first half century before declaring with roughly d26 overs remaining in the day’s game.
On the stumps, the West Indies, struck by minor injuries to batter Darren Bravo and goalkeeper Shane Dowrich, finished 49th without losing. Starters Kraigg Braithwaite (20) and John Campbell (22) batted doggedly into the late afternoon to make sure the tourists hit the stumps without missing a wicket.
The second day was dominated by the magnificent entries of Williamson. He hit nearly 10 1/2 hours, hitting 34 fours and two sixes and eclipsed his previous highest score of 242 against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 2015. Williamson is only the third New Zealander after Brendon McCullum and Stephen Fleming to score three double centuries in tryouts. .
He resumed on Friday at 97 not out and reached his 22nd century with 224 balls. New Zealand’s command total increased when it passed 150, then 200 out of 369 deliveries.
Williamson had a stroke of luck at 221 when he was caught behind by backup goalie Shamarh Brooks of the Roach bowling alley. The firing was overturned when the television referee discovered that Roach had overstepped.
Jamieson, whose previous highest score was 49, hit his first 62-ball half-century with five fours and two sixes.
