A car rolled onto its roof on State Highway 1 in central Auckland and skidded down the track, injuring two people.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said the accident, which occurred around 9.15am, initially blocked two southbound lanes from the right, just before Fanshawe St on the North Highway at St Mary’s Bay.

The delays returned to Esmonde Rd on the North Shore and could affect those heading downtown for the Queen St Santa Parade starting at 1pm.

A witness at the scene said two people were injured in the accident and were being treated by St John Ambulance personnel.

A police spokeswoman said one person was slightly injured and another slightly injured.

At 11 a.m., the NZTA said congestion was beginning to ease.

Meanwhile, emergency services are also at the scene of a motorcycle accident on Princes St, Otahuhu, exit ramp, heading south, on the South Highway.

Police had tried to stop the bicycle, which then fled and crashed shortly thereafter.

The motorcyclist is reported to have moderate injuries.

The road will be closed for some time while the Serious Accident Unit examines the scene and detours are made.

Motorists should avoid the area and take an alternate route if possible, a police spokeswoman said.
