Following heavy rains, the State Highway 1 roundabout in Plimmerton is closed due to flooding.

State Highway 1 is closed from Plimmerton to Paekākāriki, north of Wellington, due to flooding at the Plimmerton roundabout, with no detours available.

Alternate routes State Highway 58, the highway between Paremata and Hutt Valley, as well as Paekakariki Hill Rd and Grays Rd, are also closed.

Metlink’s train and bus substitution services between Wellington and Kāpiti canceled.

A heavy rain warning was issued for Wellington and the Tararua Ranges this morning, with heavy rain and hurricane force winds expected tomorrow.

MetService meteorologist Andy Best said the region could expect the weather to improve soon, with blue skies off the south coast.

Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa were also expected to clear, but were expected to get worse tomorrow.
