Today four new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in managed isolation in New Zealand, including one more member of the Pakistan cricket squad.
In a statement released this afternoon, the Health Ministry said there are no new community cases.
Today’s new cases also include two people who arrived on November 23 from the United States, and a third case who arrived from the United States on November 26 and were tested on arrival because they were showing symptoms.
The member of the Pakistan cricket team tested positive during routine tests. The rest of the three tests of the day of the team have been negative.
The Ministry said that the Pakistan cricket team will undergo testing on the sixth day as scheduled.
On Thursday it was revealed that six members of Pakistan’s cricket squad had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Ministry said the exemption of equipment for training while in managed isolation was on hold until the Canterbury DHB health medical officer was satisfied that the training was unlikely to transmit the coronavirus.
“This ongoing consideration is expected to last until at least early next week.”
“Any team member identified as a close contact would not qualify for the exemption as there is a risk that they could pass Covid-19 to their teammates.”
There are now 69 active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
The total number of confirmed cases in this country is now 1,694.
6,888 Covid-19 tests were carried out yesterday in New Zealand laboratories.
Aside from the Pakistan cricket team cases, only one new imported case was reported yesterday in New Zealand.
