Six members of the Pakistan cricket team tested positive for Covid-19.

Six members of the Pakistani traveling cricket squad, currently in managed isolation in Christchurch, tested positive for Covid-19.

Two of these six results have been considered “historic”, while four have been confirmed as new.

This means that, in accordance with the protocols governing the team’s entry into New Zealand, the six team members will be transferred to the quarantine arm of the managed isolation facility.

As a result, the Pakistan team’s exemption to train while in controlled isolation has been suspended until investigations are completed.

While this is disappointing for the Pakistan team, the test results and the actions taken show that the governance system is working, New Zealand Cricket said in a statement Thursday.

Before leaving Lahore, all members of the Pakistan tour team tested negative on all four occasions they were tested.

Furthermore, NZC has also been aware that some members of the Pakistan team have violated managed isolation protocols.

In a statement, the Health Ministry said that the Canterbury District Health Board’s Health Medical Officer had sent a letter to squad management to be communicated to the entire team, reinforcing that all team members must remain in their rooms until instructed otherwise.

Additionally, since their arrival, multiple team members had been seen on CCTV in violation of managed isolation rules, despite clear, consistent, and detailed communication of expected behaviors while on the premises. The team as a whole received a final warning, according to the ministry statement.

NZC will discuss with Pakistan to help them understand the requirements.

The West Indies, who open their series against the Black Caps with a T20 at Auckland’s Eden Park on Friday night, also broke quarantine regulations.

They were denied training privileges after “repeatedly” breaking controlled isolation rules.

Team members were caught on surveillance footage mingling in the hallways and sharing food, as well as leaving their rooms outside of assigned hours.

NZC considered that public health and safety are paramount in organizing international teams and supports the Ministry of Health and the government’s position.

Pakistan’s first game against the Black Caps is a T20 at Eden Park on December 18.
