Police are speaking with two young men after threats were made against Wellington High School.

The school was closed this morning after the threat was posted on social media and reported to the police.

“The threat made reference to Wellington High School, which was put into partial lockdown for about an hour as a precaution while the incident was being fixed,” police said in a statement this afternoon.

Investigations into the matter are continuing, police said.

A student told Stuff that an alleged shooter targeting the LGBTQI + community from Wellington High made comments online.

The shooting was allegedly planned for 2021, but was brought forward after messages sent by the alleged shooter were relayed to school personnel, the student told Stuff.

“Police would like to thank Wellington High School and the community at large for their cooperation as the threat incident was resolved.

“We know this incident has been concerning and we urge anyone with concerns about their safety or the safety of others to speak to the police immediately to report it.”

Anyone with information related to the incident can contact the police at 105, citing file number 201126/3921.

Grant Robertson, himself a member of the LGBTQI + community, tweeted that he was sending all his hoops to school.

“This is a difficult time, but I know Dominic and the team always have the well-being of students at their hearts, especially LGBTQI,” the tweet read.

“And we must all stand firm against intolerance and hatred.”

Wellington High School principal Dominic Killalea previously said they were informed of a “serious and imminent threat” and took immediate action to make sure the students were safe.
