A comedy show with Sir Tim Shadbolt has been canceled by his fellow performer after the release of a report criticizing the performance of the mayor of Invercargill.
Gary McCormick and Shadbolt were scheduled to host a show called OK Boomers at The Craythorne’s Hotel in Christchurch on Wednesday night.
McCormick said Things It didn’t feel good to host the show while Shadbolt was grappling with the recently released report, which said he was struggling to fulfill important aspects of his job as mayor.
Shadbolt has dismissed the report, saying it is flawed, but the Southland Chamber of Commerce says his refusal to accept responsibility for the empty leadership is a concern for the city.

McCormick said that introducing the show would be like, “You came out of a war and then you go right into a comedy show and you do a comedy, it just didn’t seem right.”
“This is the wrong time.”
McCormick said he decided to cancel it and Shadbolt was “fine” with the decision.
“I would not like to encourage someone to do a show when they are going through what they are going through right now.”
McCormick said he was “very sorry” for what Shadbolt was facing and didn’t want to push him further.
He said Shadbolt had been his friend for a long time and the couple had done more than 300 shows together.
They did a show together about six or eight weeks ago in front of about 120 people in a warehouse, and Shadbolt was “brilliant.”
“When it comes to making presentations, I was very happy about what happened that day.”
Craythorne’s hotel confirmed that Wednesday’s event had been canceled in a Facebook post.
The publication said that all ticket holders would be refunded.
