Christian Herbulot, 55, died Sunday afternoon after the car he was traveling in crashed into a Warkworth river.
Police have named the man who died in a car that crashed into a river in north Auckland over the weekend.
The man was Christian Herbulot of Warkworth, 55.
The car crashed into a playground and plunged into the Mahurangi River near the intersection of Baxter St and Queens St around 5 p.m. Sunday.
By the time police managed to get into the car, the man had died, police said previously.

The circumstances of the accident are still being investigated.
Things Passersby previously reported jumped into the river trying to free the driver from inside the submerged car.
Tahi Bar and Kitchen owner Gareth Hedges said: “People jumped into the water to get the driver out, but they couldn’t get to him because the car was on its side with the driver’s side stuck in the mud.”
