Police are responding to an incident at the workplace in Wigram, Christchurch.
A man died in an incident at the workplace in Wigram, Christchurch.
The death occurred at United Steel on McAlpine St. The man is believed to have been struck by a piece of steel.
A police spokesman said they were notified of an incident in Wigram at 2.10pm on Monday. He declined to provide more information, but said police were still at the scene.
“We will proactively post an update when we can,” he said.

A spokesperson for St John said an ambulance and rapid response vehicle attended a call at the Wigram facility at 2.07pm.
“Given the result, we are unable to provide further information,” he said.
He referred other inquiries to the police.
Ben Hammond, group health and safety manager for United Industries Limited, which owns United Steel, said the Christchurch site had closed and an investigation was underway.
“There is a process that we have to go through,” he said.
Hammond said he was flying from Auckland to Christchurch because of the incident.
He did not want to comment further.
WorkSafe has confirmed that it is investigating.
“As the matter is now under investigation, we are unable to provide further comment,” said a press release.
