Steven Adams may be on his way from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
New Zealand center Steven Adams could be bringing his talents to The Big Easy.
Adams is reportedly involved in a trade deal that would send him from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Two highly respected basketball writers in the US tweeted on Saturday (New Zealand time) that Adams was being discussed as a multi-directional trade piece that appears to end his seven-year stint with the Thunder, who drafted the New Zealander. in 2013.
Oklahoma City acquired veteran Al Horford earlier this week, raising questions about Adams’ future with the team.
The Thunder are firmly in rebuilding mode after trading 10-time All Star Chris Paul to the Phoenix Suns and moving fellow point guard Dennis Schroder to the Los Angeles Lakers in recent days. Former Thunder coach Billy Donovan also joined the Chicago Bulls with assistant Mark Daigneault promoted to head coach at OKC.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said a possible four-team trade, including the Thunder, New Orleans and Milwaukee, could see Adams move, while The Athletic’s Shams Charnia wrote on Twitter that New Orleans was finalizing a deal to acquire Adams.
Adams, 27, has one year left on his initial four-year contract, valued at $ 27.5 million per year, before becoming a free agent.
