Homes shot up, cars vandalized as gang tensions rise in south Auckland

Several houses were shot and cars destroyed as tensions between the gangs flared in Ōtara on Friday night.

Armed police were standing guard outside several houses in the southern suburb of Auckland.

At the corner of Capstick and Ivon Rds, several vehicles had been wrecked and the house was apparently shot multiple times.

A witness said they heard several explosions and the crushing of cars around 5 p.m.

As night fell, shortly before 9 p.m., the armed police were still stationed about 5 minutes away at the corner of Bairds and Otara Rds, where a similar shooting occurred.

A police spokeswoman confirmed at 8.30 pm that no one had been injured.

Several roads in the area were closed while Manukau County Police conducted investigations.
