the Otago Daily Times Now you can reveal that the American rock group Guns n ‘Roses will perform in the city on November 21 next year.
The performance will be the first announcement of a major stadium tour by the Los Angeles hard rock band since the outbreak of Covid-19.
The band will perform in Wellington on November 19 before arriving in Dunedin.
Dainty Group promoter Paul Dainty said Covid-19 is unlikely to be an obstacle to touring within a year.
“We are very sure that within a year we will be in a safe place to perform the shows.
“We are in a good place now … In Australia, the first people will probably start getting the vaccine in March or April.”
The gang members were willing to serve a quarantine period if necessary, he said.
It would be the band’s only gig on the South Island, and Dunedin was an obvious choice, he said.
“We know we can get people there. It’s a nice stadium and a good venue … We thought we’d mix it up.”
The band was looking forward to being back at the forefront of international tours.
“They are very excited. They love the audience here … They are aware of how well we have done managing everything.
“It sends a message globally that New Zealand and Australia have done an incredible job in managing the pandemic.”
Guns n ‘Roses was formed in Los Angeles in 1985.
Lead singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan remain in the original lineup.
The band has sold more than 100 million albums and their biggest hits include welcome to the Jungle, My sweet child, Paradise City, Do not Cry Y November Rain.
Fans can look forward to a sound and lighting show, Dainty said.
“It’s a production that matches the size of the crowd. Almost 100 crew members hang out with them, it’s going to be a great night.”
The tour had taken months of emails and many Zoom video conference calls to organize.
Dainty said the programs were good news for the South’s economy.
“Bringing out a mega act is fantastic news, not just good news for fans. It touches all parts of the economy.”
Tickets will go on sale on November 26 through Ticketmaster.
