Queenstown police would like to speak to this man after the bar stools he bought at Kmart were allegedly exchanged for those in a nearby cafe.
Queenstown police are looking for an elderly couple to help solve the mystery of the coffee bar stools that were traded in for new chairs from Kmart.
Sergeant Steve Watt said an elderly man bought four stools at the Queenstown department store on November 8.
A woman returned to them later in the evening and allegedly changed them with the stools at Jamaica Blue Fine Coffees, located at the store entrance.
The cafe was closed at the time but Things She understands that the woman told a nearby security guard that she was the owner, and the guard helped her remove the stools.

These bar stools were purchased from Kmart Queenstown and traded in for those from a nearby cafe.
“They must have decided they didn’t like the ones they bought … but they quite liked the others,” Watt said.
Jamaica Blue Fine Coffees manager Jamie Yoon said she noticed the change early Monday morning.
Kmart stools still had labels attached.
“It was really weird,” he said.
The cafe was part of a franchise and the stools had been provided by Australia.
They were much heavier than the lightweight stools they were replaced with.

Yoon contacted his boss in Auckland, who confirmed that they shouldn’t have been replaced. Then he called the police.
“We had no idea what was going on.”
A later verification of the CCTV footage revealed most of the story and the security guard was able to help, he said.
She hoped the couple would bring back the chairs from the cafe, she said.
Watt said it was a “pretty tough case.”
“They paid $ 160 for a set of chairs which they later changed.”
