Trump is touting rapid progress in making a vaccine available to counter the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 240,000 people in the United States. No vaccine has been formally approved, but Trump said one could be available to the general public in April.
Trump called US work on the vaccine the “largest mobilization in US history.” In the creation and development of vaccines and therapies in record time, five times faster than the 8 to 12 years it normally takes.
His comments were followed by a speech from Operation Warp Speed’s Scientific Director, Dr. Moncef Slaoui.
There have been more than 100,000 new confirmed cases in the United States reported daily for more than a week.
In other breaking news, Trump won North Carolina and its 15 electoral votes, avoiding a close challenge by Democratic candidate Joe Biden and keeping the battlefield for Republicans.

The Associated Press news agency, from which Stuff is taking the results of the US elections, has not yet called the presidential race in the state of Georgia, which is conducting a recount.
The goal of Operation Warp Speed is to produce and administer 300 million doses of safe and effective vaccines with starting doses available by January 2021, as part of a broader strategy to accelerate the development, manufacture and distribution of Covid vaccines- 19, therapies and diagnostics, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.
