OPINION: The lame duck thinks it is a golden goose.
Still denying the loss of last week’s US election by more than 5 million votes, President Donald Trump lashes out at Fox News and retweets those who follow his example.
“The Fox News daytime ratings have completely collapsed,” he said Thursday morning. “Weekend during the day even WORSE.”
The president does not cite statistics or reports to back up his claim. Fox News was, in fact, the most viewed cable news network in the country in the months leading up to the election, according to Nielsen ratings. USA Today reports that CNN topped Fox News on election week, even though Fox had a bigger election day.

“It’s very sad to see this happen, but they forgot what made them successful, what got them there,” he added. “They forgot about the Golden Goose.”
While the morning show Fox and friends and Fox News primetime programming get high marks from Trump, the president is not always satisfied with the cable news channel’s programming in between.
More recently, Fox host Neil Cavuto upset Trump supporters by cutting off a speech by White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany after she made unsubstantiated allegations that the president’s opponents “gave the welcome “to electoral fraud. Trump supporters were also upset with Fox News for calling the state of Arizona in favor of Democrat Joe Biden on election night, although the contest is close and the ballots are still being counted.
“The biggest difference between the 2016 and 2020 elections was Fox News!” the president concluded in his tweet without further explanation.
Trump retweeted loyalists who throughout the week said they were directing the channel to far-right networks OANN and Newsmax, where the news is always good for the president.
“Fox has been completely unfair and untrue. Moving on to Newsmax,” Trump supporter Ryan tweeted. K McCormack, whose sentiments were shared by the president on Thursday.
“Very good. They have been a disaster since Election Day,” @YMCusA said on Twitter. “A clearly corrupt media has not given DT any chance.”
That Trump fan was also retweeted by the president.
“I’ve been a loyal FOX viewer for many years, until now. Tucker (Carlson), (Sean) Hannity and Laura (Ingraham) should go while they can,” wrote another curator. “FOX is indulging the left now and it’s obvious (sic).”
Trump even retweeted @samysabbagh asking if OANN was an app or something that can be viewed on cable or satellite TV. OANN tweeted information to that potential viewer on Thursday.
“There’s no question. Fox News was available 24/7 in our house for the last 7 years. It hasn’t been for the last 7 days in a row. B Boobers tweeted.” FOX IS ALL ABOUT CELEBRITY AS JOURNALISM !!! AND EVERYONE HAS A BOOK. SMH “
Actor Kevin Sorbo, better known as the Hercules of television, also tweeted and was retweeted by the president.
“The surprising thing is how obvious the deception is and the left says …” Who, me? “Sorbo wrote with a link to a story alleging voting irregularities.
Sorbo’s tweet was flagged by Twitter for its questionable content. Trump supporters have also urged the president to part ways with Twitter, which has consistently flagged tweets from the president alleging election fraud. Some conservatives have flocked to Parler as an alternative.
Fox News declined to comment.
