One case is not linked to any current case identified so far by the Health Ministry, Director General of Health Dr. Ashley Bloomfield said at a press conference today.

The new mystery case is an Auckland student who became symptomatic on November 9 and was examined the next day.

They went to work at the AZ Collections store on High Street from November 8-11.

The positive test result was confirmed this morning and the person was taken to the Auckland quarantine facility.

The person lives alone and hasn’t had many outings recently, Bloomfield says.

The person is an AUT student but has not been on campus since mid-October.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service is currently interviewing the positive case and identifying close contacts.

They are also working to identify the person’s movements during the past week to find where they got the infection. Genome testing is also underway.

The second new community case is linked to the November group.

Bloomfield said this was a good reminder to get tested if someone is feeling unwell and to isolate yourself while waiting for the test results.

The other case from the community is connected to the November group and is a close contact of “Case B” in the group. The Ministry of Health refers to this new case as “Case C”.

Bloomfield says Case C had met Case B for lunch in Wellington at Little Penang restaurant on The Terrace on Friday afternoon.

Developing symptoms on Saturday, they were tested for Covid-19 and self-isolating at home.

The test came back negative, however Case C was quarantined at the Grand Mercure in Wellington.

A second test came back positive yesterday.

Push notifications were sent out on Sunday for Little Penang The Terrace, visited by Case B and Case C.

Anyone who has visited the restaurant between 1 PM and 4 PM on Friday has been asked to have a test if they feel symptomatic.

Household contacts for Case C are isolated and have yielded negative results.

All identified close contacts of the new case are being isolated.

There is also an additional new case in isolation managed today.

They arrived on November 9 from Los Angeles. They returned a positive test around day three and were transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.

Two cases have been recovered, bringing the total number of active cases in New Zealand to 53.

New Zealand’s total number of confirmed cases is now 1,635.

Yesterday, labs across the country completed 6,581 tests for Covid-19, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 1,155,514.
