Focus Live: Dr. Ashley Bloomfield and Chris Hipkins Give Covid-19 Update

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins and Chief Health Officer Ashley Bloomfield are holding a press conference.

The impromptu conference was announced just over an hour before it began at 1 p.m.

Hipkins and Bloomfield will speak to the media at the Beehive Theatrette.

Yesterday there were no new community cases and one new case in managed isolation.

And the West Indies men’s cricket team was denied further training privileges after breaking the rules of administered isolation within its Christchurch facility.

The Health Ministry said that after an investigation, it was confirmed that team members had repeatedly violated managed isolation rules.

“Many of these incidents have been captured on CCTV and have also been reported by staff.

“The incidents include groups mixing and sharing food. It is important to note that all incidents occurred within the hotel facilities and there is no risk to the public,” the ministry said.

The team, who are here to play the New Zealand Black Caps, are in the managed isolation facility at the Chateau on the Park in Christchurch.

And yesterday, the police confirmed that they were investigating a claim made on a notorious horror website of a person apparently infected with Covid-19 and that they wanted to spread it.

The post has been shared on 8Chan, infamous for inciting terror, hateful and racist views.

“Long story short, I’m pretty sure I have the woohoo flu – I was in the same restaurant as a confirmed case, I have a sore throat and I can’t stop coughing …

“How can I do my best to become a super spreader?”

The sign is identified as “Anonymous” and says they have exams today and Friday, but does not mention a location in the post.

Several students at the University of Auckland have shared it on Facebook in an attempt to raise awareness among students, particularly those who must take an exam on the two days mentioned.

A police spokesman confirmed this morning that they have learned of the complaints.

“We are currently evaluating this information,” he said.
