Paula Marsh was at a friend’s house on Main Street in Hospital Hill sheltering from the downpour when she heard an incredibly loud sound around 7:30 p.m.

“It came in two waves – the first was very loud and the second went through the house,” Marsh said.

“It was horrible to hear glass and wood break.”

When the first landslide hit, her partner grabbed her two daughters from a room near where the landslide impacted the house; Moments later, mud pierced the wall.

“He saved us all,” Marsh said.

Another person was also staying in the house in a little dream at the back of the property.

When the landslide fell, it broke the dream, leaving the woman inside “up to her neck in the mud.”

“She’s very shocked, but she’s okay,” Marsh said.

Sadly, the owner’s cat was killed by the landslide.

Marsh said there are still concerns that more rain could trigger another landslide and wipe out the home.

No one was injured, but everyone was shocked and the children had nightmares last night about the landslide.

Marsh said she was grateful to the property’s neighbor Chris, who brought them to her parents’ home through the floods, and to Darryl at The Old Mill for taking care of their dog while it all happened.

“Everything happened so fast.”

Marsh said she has sought support to help her and her family come to terms with the experience.
