The CEO of Health was a finalist in the category of Television Personality of the Year at this year’s NZTV Awards, along with faces like TVNZ’s Hilary Barry and Wendy Petrie.
He made daily appearances during the Covid-19 crisis, appearing during live press conferences that were broadcast across the country.
However, Bloomfield has now rejected the nomination.
A statement from his office today says he was “honored” by the nomination.
“Given his leading role as a public servant and not as a television personality, he would like to stop being considered for the award.”
Officials at the NZTV Awards say they support his decision to withdraw and thanked him, the Ministry of Health and frontline workers during the Covid-19 fight.
The NZTV awards will take place on November 18 and voting will close at midnight on Sunday, November 15.
