German Chancellor Angela Merkel also congratulated Biden and Harris.
“I look forward to future cooperation with President Biden,” he said in a statement posted on Twitter. “Our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to overcome the great challenges of our time.”

French President Emmanuel Macron said the two countries had many challenges to face.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was one of the first world leaders to congratulate President-elect Biden.
“I look forward to working with President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, their administration and the United States Congress as we tackle the world’s greatest challenges together,” Trudeau said shortly after multiple broadcasters declared Biden the winner.
Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that Biden had been a true friend.
“I am sure that under his presidency the relationship between our countries will be further strengthened.”
