Labor candidates from three electorates who lost on the night have claimed victory over their national rivals following a special vote count.

At Maungakiekie Labor, Priyanca Radhakrishnan won by a 635 majority over National’s Denise Lee.

In Northland, Willow-Jean Prime defeated Matt King by a majority of 163 votes, while in Whangārei, Emily Henderson defeated Shane Reti with a majority of 431 votes.

Lee, who was criticized by Leader Judith Collins for a letter she wrote to colleagues about policy regarding Auckland Council that was later leaked, and King, have lost their seats in Parliament as National goes from 35 to 33 seats.

Labor increases its number of seats from 64 to 65.

In the special vote count, the Maori Party won a second MP, while the Greens and ACT were left with 10 each.
