A man was charged with violating the conditions of his bail after the Armed Criminal Squad was called to a small town north of Canterbury.
The 27-year-old was arrested shortly after 9:10 p.m. Saturday night in Pines Beach, just outside of Kaiapoi.
A police spokeswoman said that at the time the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) was assisting police with a “person of interest” on property on Dunns Avenue.
On Sunday morning, police confirmed the man would appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday, charged with breach of bail.

A spokesperson said he had an outstanding warrant related to a firearms incident.
A woman, who lives on nearby Beach Rd, said she saw at least 10 police cars pass by Saturday night, as well as the AOS and an ambulance.
He said the roundabout at the Pines Beach entrance was fully cordoned off.
“There [were] many residents standing outside, waiting for the phone with people still there.
