It is the eighth consecutive day since the last community-transmitted Covid-19 case in New Zealand. The last of these cases was registered on Friday, October 23.
Each of the cases came from the United States, Ukraine and Dubai. The case of the United States and Ukraine arrived on October 26, while the case of Dubai arrived on October 28.
Four cases were from Qatar, of people who arrived on October 27 and October 29.
All cases were detected during routine testing and isolation processes and are now in the Auckland quarantine facility.
The total number of active cases is now 75, bringing the total number of cases in New Zealand since the start of the pandemic to 1601.
Yesterday, labs completed 5,964 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 1,096,666.
Child who attended Napier child care center was retested
The boy who tested positive upon arrival in Japan last week, after testing negative in New Zealand prior to departure, has been re-tested and has tested negative.
The boy’s home and contacts also tested negative, the Health Ministry said.
“This public health investigation has also investigated the evidence and possible historical exposures.
“It has been determined that it was not the result of a recent Covid-19 infection.
“There is no continuing risk to New Zealand and the case is now closed,” the Health Ministry said.
Chief Health Officer Dr. Ashley Bloomfield said Thursday the boy had a “weak positive” result from a rapid antigen test on Friday, October 23.
Since then, the boy had been re-examined with the PCR technique, used in New Zealand to diagnose people.
The boy attended a Napier children’s center before leaving.
Fishermen at the Sudima Hotel in Christchurch
The tests on the 15th will be held this weekend for members of the group of fishermen from the Sudima Hotel in Christchurch who still have no confirmed cases.
“All those who meet our low risk indicators, which include those who have recovered or have consistently yielded negative results during their stay, will be eligible to leave administered isolation as of next Tuesday, November 3,” said the Ministry of Health.
It comes after a group of Russian and Ukrainian fishermen tested positive during their stay at the facility.
The Health Ministry confirmed today’s figures through a statement.
