After more than 100,000 visits from interested buyers, Wellington’s old airport control tower is officially off the market.
The building, believed to be the only control tower with a residential address and mailbox, was sold by Billy Bell of Tommy’s Real Estate.
“A huge couple of weeks with over 100,000 views around the world, but now is the time for this iconic milestone to change hands,” he wrote on Facebook.

The sale price of the building known as “Arnold” has not been disclosed. It had a starting price of $ 895,000. The commission earned by Tommy’s Real Estate will be donated to the new Wellington Children’s Hospital.
Bell previously said Stuff it was the most unusual property he had ever sold.
“We’ve had unusual looking houses, but never anything like this, so it’s exciting to participate.”
Located at 34-36 Tirangi Road, the property overlooks the harbor. Half the windows are covered with bars, so there is almost no natural light, and there are some warnings on the doors.
A narrow set of spiral staircases is the only way to go up to the upper deck. However, the view from the top is worth the climb.
The views stretch from Lyall Bay to Evans Bay, and it also offers a great view of planes landing in and out of town.
Bell has been contacted for comment.
