Some roads in northern Southland have been hit by flooding after heavy rains at the headwaters caused rivers to swell on Monday.
Environment Southland activated its flood warning after heavy rains hit the headwaters of some rivers on Monday, but most have subsided as the weather cleared for the day.
Floods affected some roads in northern Southland, including the Waikaia Valley near Piano Flat, and some farmland was also flooded when rivers overflowed.
Roads had not been closed due to the flooding.
The regional council released an updated report at 2.50pm, which showed that the warning had been lifted for most of the rivers, but some were still flowing above normal levels.

The Oreti River on the Lumsden Cableway was 2.05 meters above normal and the Irthing Stream on Ellis Road was 1.82 meters above normal, but both were falling.
The Orauea River on Orawia Pukemaori Road was 2.39 meters above normal and was rising.
The regional council issued a flood warning Monday morning for the headwaters of most of the province’s river systems.
The Metservice had issued a heavy rain alert for Southland from 8 p.m. Sunday night to 4 a.m. Monday morning.
The forecast for Tuesday was for good runs, with some isolated showers in the morning.
