A staff member at Westpac New Zealand’s central office in central Auckland tested positive for Covid-19.

The staff member, whose case was announced by Health Director Dr. Ashley Bloomfield on Friday, contracted the virus from a family contact outside the bank.

A Westpac New Zealand spokesperson said the employee had not been in the office since last Friday.

He is an “employee who does not face the customer.”

Dr. Ashley Bloomfield provides a Covid-19 update announcing nine new cases.

The official advice was that they would not have become infectious until Tuesday, the spokesman said.

“However, as a precautionary measure, we are conducting a thorough cleaning of the employee’s floor and workspace, and have instituted other standard Covid-19 procedures, including asking the employee’s colleagues to monitor their health,” the spokesman said.

“We are in frequent contact with this employee and we offer him full support.”

The Malt Bar in Greenhithe is closed after a positive Covid-19 case was visited.

The latest cases of community transmission this week come from an Auckland harbor worker, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 last weekend.

He is believed to have contracted the virus aboard a ship that is now anchored off the coast of Australia.

Two of the worker’s colleagues and some of his household contacts went to various public places on the North Shore before realizing they had contracted Covid-19.

One of the men went to the Greenhithe The Malt pub hours after being exposed to the virus while at his workplace, Wright Technologies in Rosedale.

Everyone who works at the bar and who is classified as close contacts on the case has since tested negative.
