A Browns Bay gym on Auckland’s North Shore says it is closed for cleaning after a positive case of Covid-19 visited it.
A sign outside the Snap Fitness gym says a person with the virus was there last Saturday.
He said the risk was low, but the gym was closed for a deep cleaning as a precaution and would reopen Tuesday.
Contact tracing information for those in the gym at the same time as the confirmed case has been relayed to the Ministry of Health.
In a Facebook post, the gym said: “We have been in direct contact with the Auckland Regional Public Health Service on Thursday 22nd October and they have confirmed that one of the recent community cases of COVID-19 had attended Snap Fitness Browns Bay while infectious (though not symptomatic) on Saturday, October 17.
“While we are not required by public health to close the facility as we have been classified as low risk, we have made the decision to close Snap Fitness Browns Bay as of 1:00 pm on October 22. and in this stage we will reopen at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, October 24.
“We have worked closely with Public Health to identify everyone who was in the gym on the same day as the case, Saturday October 17, and who attended the 28 Day Challenge training camp on Browns Bay Beach with the person that day. Public Health will contact these members to advise them on the next steps. “
It comes after a person who tested positive for Covid-19 visited The Malt pub in Greenhithe, which is also on the North Shore.
