Five cases have been recovered, bringing the total active cases to 33.
Thirty close contacts have been identified in relation to the dock worker, a community case that tested positive on Saturday after working on a ship docked in the ports of Taranaki. All of the man’s close contacts have been contacted by health officials and are self-isolating.
To date, all test results returned by casual and close contacts of the case are negative.
On Monday, the labs processed 2,715 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 1,034,603.
Ships
Chief Moana
The Moana Chief is a New Zealand-based ship with a New Zealand-based crew, which health officials plan to test Wednesday. The Health Ministry believes the ship is unlikely to be the source of the man’s infection.
The ship travels from Marsden Point to Tauranga on Tuesday, and crew testing will begin Wednesday to rule out that the ship is the source of infection.
Sofrana Surville
This Sofrana Surville is the ship suspected of being the source of the infection for the community case. The ship arrived in Brisbane on Monday evening and New Zealand officials are following up with public health officials in Australia regarding the health of those on board.
Australian authorities are conducting tests and serology on the 19 crew members. Results will be shared as they become available and genome sequencing will be carried out on any positive results that are returned.
An investigation into the ship’s activities found that there are 11 people who are believed to have had contact with the ship while in Auckland. All are being tracked, tested and isolated, if applicable.
Toi Te Ora, the public health unit in the Bay of Plenty, continues its work to identify the people who boarded the ship while it was in Tauranga.
Ken rei
The Ken Rei remains anchored off the coast of Napier. Officials are working with the ship’s owners to determine its next move, along with public health units and port authorities. Arrangements for testing will be made once a decision has been made.
The Ministry of Health continues to carry out daily health checks on the 21 crew on board. All are currently well and report no symptoms of COVID-19, and have been symptom-free for seven days.
Tests
Anyone who develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should immediately contact their healthcare provider or Healthline and get tested, the ministry reiterated Tuesday.
Tests are available in doctor’s offices and clinics after hours and are free. Many District Health Boards still have community-based assessment centers for testing, and some emerging testing centers are still operational.
The locations where you can get a test are available on your DHB website or on the ARPHS website if you are in Auckland.
