National MP Denise Lee sent an email criticizing her leader to the caucus that was leaked to Newshub during the campaign.
When asked if he regretted sending the email, Lee said: “All my comments will be reserved for our internal processing. I support Judith as a leader.”
His colleagues want the leaker exposed and removed.
“Fit or move,” said National Rep. Chris Penk.
“Well, I think anyone who’s disloyal should go ahead,” said Tim Macindoe.
Collins was asked if he thinks the leakers should go.
“I don’t think we are going to have problems because I think we are very focused,” he said.
But it wasn’t just this disloyalty. The National Party was torn apart throughout the period. Through leader after leaker after leader, the knives were always out and still are.
But Collins wants to move on.
When asked how much responsibility those involved in the Todd Muller and Nikki Kaye coup should take for the loss, Collins said, “You know what? I think everyone has moved on.”
Former leader Simon Bridges was asked if he could have delivered a better result for National.
“I think it’s a silly question. We are where we are now. I support Judith 100 percent as the leader of the National Party,” he said.
Collins was trying to stabilize a sinking ship, but then came the tax holes.
National finance spokesman Paul Goldsmith said it is up to Collins if he wants him to continue in office.
“Oh look, we all take responsibility for our actions, myself included. It is up to the leader that she wants to appoint in that role,” he said.
Collins played down the suggestion that Goldsmith destroyed National’s financial credibility.
“Enough is enough,” he said.
She says it’s time to move on.
“It is forward and up for us and we are determined to be the best opposition of all time.”
