A man was attacked with a stun gun after he turned a rebel on the Invercargill District Court dock on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old, with the provisional deletion of the name, became increasingly agitated when he directed offensive remarks at Judge Bernadette Farnan during an appearance.

Judge Farnan stopped the matter and the man swore as Corrections staff began to carry him out of the courtroom.

It was unclear what further aggravated the incident, but two Corrections staff members were seen trying to physically restrain him.
