Emergency services are dealing with reports of loose iron roof panels threatening to blow off a building in Wellington.

A portion of Adelaide Rd between numbers 170 and 215 was closed due to wild weather, but has since reopened.

A New Zealand Fire & Emergency spokesperson said the panels were loose but were now secured.

Wellington City Council previously warned motorists to expect delays when traveling through the area.

Metservice has forecast that northwesterly winds will pick up at gale force in exposed locations during the afternoon, up to 110 km / h.

The journey at night can also be long for those arriving home by train.

Metlink reported that some services on the Johnsonville line were canceled due to a power outage.

There were also previous reports of more than 1,000 affected homes in the suburbs of Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Roseneath and Oriental Bay.

The council said Wellington Electricity was investigating the cause and expected power to be restored by 5.30pm.

Just before 5 p.m., no known outages were reported on its website.

Zealandia also closed her shrine this afternoon due to high winds.

“As always, the safety of our staff and visitors is our highest priority. We apologize for any inconvenience,” the visitors were told.
