Kiwis arriving in Australia have been quarantined after traveling outside the specified states included in the transtasman bubble.
Five travelers from New Zealand arrived in Adelaide after passing through interstate airports, according to ABC.
They flew from New Zealand to Sydney but were detained in Adelaide after arriving unexpectedly on a domestic flight and forced into hotel quarantine, South Australia Prime Minister Steven Marshall said at a press conference this afternoon.
Two arrived over the weekend, two more this morning.
The current trans-Tasman bubble deal started on Friday and only allows New Zealanders to travel to New South Wales and the Northern Territory without going through a quarantine. All other states are exempt.
However, Marshall said the South African state government is now considering its border deal with New Zealand.
“We are looking very closely at the agreements regarding our borders with New Zealand,” he said.
“They have done extraordinarily well and we are hopeful that we can lift that border restriction with New Zealand when it is safe to do so.”
SBS reported that at least 90 travelers from New Zealand flew to Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania after arriving in Sydney.
Around 65 people have entered Victoria since Australia’s travel bubble began, and only 10 of them are not located.
Around 23 are reported to have slipped into Western Australia as well.
However, kiwis returning to New Zealand from Australia must go into a quarantine of isolation administered for two weeks.
