Kiwi rider Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander have won the Bathurst 1000 race.
Kiwi driver Shane van Gisbergen has secured a memorable Supercars victory for Holden in the latest Bathurst 1000 from the iconic Australian automotive brand.
Teaming up with now four-time winner Garth Tander, van Gisbergen conquered Mount Panorama for the first time to claim the 161-lap enduro on Sunday.
The Red Bull champion resisted numerous fierce passing attempts from Ford’s Cameron Waters, who started the great race on pole position.
Not even two safety cars called up in the final nine laps could derail van Gisbergen’s charge to glory.

The New Zealander’s previous best result at Bathurst was second in 2016 and 2019, while the veteran Tander had already experienced maximum success in 2000, 2009 and 2011.
It was van Gisbergen’s 40th Supercars victory and the 34th time a Holden car has won at Mount Panorama.
Chaz Mostert, who won a spectacular Bathurst 1000 in 2014 driving a Ford, ensured that four Holden drivers took the podium by finishing third, with his co-driver Warren Luff.
The result means that Commodores have won five of the last six Bathurst 1000s, with only Scott McLaughlin (2019) hailing Ford since 2015.
It’s Holden’s last official Supercars race before General Motors retires the red lion later this year.
To pay tribute to the brand, van Gisbergen affixed a Holden flag to his car as he completed his victory lap.
“It’s just unbelievable. The last laps with the safety cars were really tough,” he said.
“It’s a great way to send Holden. Thanks to Garth, he did an amazing job. I wish my mom and dad were here.”
Meanwhile, defending champion and compatriot McLaughlin finished fifth in what could be the Ford superstar’s last race in Australia before an IndyCar race begins.
But he was still able to celebrate his third consecutive Supercars championship after claiming the title in last month’s round at Tailem Bend.
As van Gisbergen took the checkered flag, it was a disastrous day for his Triple Eight star teammate Jamie Whincup, who crashed on lap 33.
