US President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden will compete for television audiences in public meetings in mourning rather than meeting face-to-face for their second debate as originally planned.
The two will answer questions in different cities on different networks on Thursday night (local time): Trump on NBC from Miami, Biden on ABC from Philadelphia.

The second face-to-face debate between the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the Democratic candidate Joe Biden, has been canned; instead, they will hold public meetings in competition.
Trump backed out of plans for the presidential showdown originally scheduled for the night after organizers of the debate changed the format to a virtual event following Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis.
As the pace of the campaign picks up in its final weeks, the two candidates are first addressing other electoral needs Thursday: Trump has a midday rally on the North Carolina battlefield and Biden is raising funds from the campaign in a virtual event.

Trump has also been trying to shore up support from constituencies he not long ago thought he had on the bag: big business and voters in the red state of Iowa.
In a speech Wednesday morning to business leaders, he expressed puzzlement that they would even consider supporting Biden, arguing that his own leadership was a better bet for a strong economy.
Later, the US president held his third campaign rally in three nights, this time in Iowa, a state he comfortably won in 2016 but where Biden is making a belated effort.
Trump claimed to be leading the way in the most recent Iowa poll he saw. “I’m a little worried that he’s only above six,” he said.
Several polls have shown a much closer race.

Biden, for his part, held a virtual fundraiser from Wilmington, Delaware, and used his appearance to say that Trump was trying to swiftly pass Amy Coney Barrett, his nominee for the Supreme Court, to aid in his efforts to repeal the Obama’s health care law, calling that “an abuse of power.”
Trump used his economic speech Wednesday to highlight his administration’s commitment to cutting taxes and deregulating the industry, and he made no secret of his frustration with signs that some in the business community are leaning toward Biden.
“I know I’m talking to some Democrats, and some of you are friends of mine,” Trump said in a virtual address to the Economic Clubs of New York, Florida, Washington, DC, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
If Biden were elected, he continued, “You will see things happen that will not make you happy. I don’t understand your thinking. “

Joe Biden has stepped up campaign trips in the past week, visiting Arizona, Nevada, Florida and Pennsylvania.
The former vice president has raised more than $ 50 million (NZ $ 75 million) in campaign contributions from donors in the securities and investment sectors, according to the private nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
During his decades in the Senate representing Delaware, a hub for the credit card and banking industries, Biden built relationships and a corporate voting record that has raised suspicions on the left, but provides Wall Street with a measure of reassurance at the prospect of a Biden administration.
After being sidelined by the coronavirus, Trump resumed a dizzying schedule this week, and his aides said he is expected to travel and stage campaign rallies every day until Nov. 3.
Trump has appeared healthy in his public appearances since he emerged from quarantine, although at times during his economic speech Wednesday his voice was hoarse.

In Iowa, Trump threw down his tie and donned a red hat to combat the strong breeze on the airport runway.
He appealed directly to farmers in the state, saying he was responsible for $ 28 billion in aid designed to help offset damage from his trade war with China.
“I hope you remember that on November 3,” Trump said.
But after years of farmers supporting him despite the trade war, some Republicans say Trump’s renewable fuel policy has sown some doubt.
The Trump Environmental Protection Agency has granted dozens of waivers to oil companies seeking to circumvent congressional rules that require the level of corn-based fuel additive ethanol that gasoline must contain.
It recently denied further waiver requests, but the EPA’s earlier action eliminated about 4 billion gallons of ethanol demand, resulting in the closure, at least temporarily, of more than a dozen ethanol plants in Iowa. .

Republicans have been alarmed that enthusiasm among Trump’s rank and file has waned slightly, putting his re-election in doubt.
Though it mostly stayed low on Wednesday, Biden has stepped up campaign trips in the past week, with visits to Arizona, Nevada, Florida and Pennsylvania.
The former vice president of the United States is not introducing new themes in his speech that he is a constant alternative to Trump.
Biden and his aides believe that the president’s scattered campaign messages since his Covid-19 diagnosis demonstrate the core of Biden’s case.
Trump’s return to Iowa came when he was forced to play defense after a widely criticized performance in the first debate and his illness.
