Melania Trump says her 14-year-old son, Barron, tested positive for the coronavirus but showed no symptoms.
The White House initially said he had tested negative, after his parents tested positive earlier this month.
The First Lady said Wednesday that subsequent tests showed Barron had also contracted Covid-19.
The First Lady revealed her son’s infection in an article she wrote and published today.
She writes that it was a fortnight ago that she and the president tested positive for Covid-19.
“Naturally, my mind immediately went to our son. To our great relief, he tested negative, but again, as many parents have thought over the past few months, I couldn’t help but think ‘what happens tomorrow or the next day? My fear came true when they tested her again and it came back positive.
“Fortunately, he is a strong teenager and showed no symptoms. In a way, I was glad that the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of each other and spend time together. Since then it has tested negative.”
Melania Trump said she was lucky her infection presented with “minimal symptoms.”
“I experienced body aches, coughs, and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of the time. I chose to take a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting more for vitamins and healthy food. We had wonderful caregivers around us. and we will.We will be eternally grateful for the medical care and professional discretion we receive from [White House doctor Sean] Conley and his team.
“It was an unfamiliar feeling for me to be the patient rather than a person trying to encourage our nation to stay healthy and safe. Now they were taking care of me and getting first-hand experience with all that Covid-19 can do. Like the patient and the person who benefits from so much medical support, I was even more grateful and amazed by the caregivers and first responders everywhere. To the medical staff and residency staff who have been caring for our family, thank you not says enough. “
Melania Trump said she had now tested negative for Covid.
“I am pleased to report that I have tested negative and I hope to resume my duties as soon as possible. Along with this good news, I want people to know that I understand how fortunate my family is to have received the kind of care we did. Yes you are sick, or if you have a loved one who is sick, I am thinking of you and I will be thinking of you every day. I pray for our country and I pray for all who are dealing with Covid-19 and any other illness or challenge.
“I encourage everyone to continue living the healthiest life possible. A balanced diet, fresh air, and vitamins are truly vital to keeping our bodies healthy. For your complete well-being, compassion and humility are so important in keeping our minds. To me Personally, the most impactful part of my recovery was the opportunity to reflect on many things: family, friends, my work and being true to who you are.
“I want people to know that I understand how lucky my family is to have received the kind of care that we receive. If you are sick or if you have a loved one who is sick, I am thinking of you and I will be thinking of you every day.” .
