4 pm – NZ First leader Winston Peters said he was certain of a “surge” in support for his party, ahead of tonight’s multi-party leaders television debate.
“There is an increase, as you well know,” Peters told reporters, when asked how the NZ First campaign had gone over the last week.
As for where the increase came from, Peters said: “Don’t worry, I can tell from enough indicators that things are going very, very well for us.”
Peters said it is based on his experience during “many, many years” of campaign.
“I would love to give you many examples, but I want you tonight to be the expert on this matter,” he said.
It occurs when two people accused in connection with the NZ First Foundation for donations had their names secret for now by court order. It is alleged that they deposited more than $ 740,000 into an NZ First Foundation account. The Serious Fraud Office confirmed last week that the couple are not members of the staff or members of the staff of NZ First.
Peters declined to comment on the matter.
