Firefighters are fighting to control a large house fire in East Tāmaki.
Emergency services were called to the fire along Point View Drive at 8.37 p.m.
Four fire trucks are at the scene, said Fire and Emergency New Zealand North Shift Manager Daniel Nicholson.
“The house is well involved, there are no people missing or reported missing,” he said.
Police say only one person was believed to be inside the home when the fire broke out and the St. John ambulance was evaluating them.
Officers were helping with laces outside the home, a police spokeswoman said.
A nearby resident said smoke from the fire rose into the night sky.
“It’s very windy outside, the wind is blowing smoke, it’s very high,” he said.
“It’s very sad, it’s probably someone’s house.”
A witness sent photos of the fire to the Herald, saying: “Sad, someone must have lost souvenirs, house and valuables. I hope people are safe.”
